Ruth C. Jacobson
Ruth C. Jacobson, 77, of Angora passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospital with her family at her side.
Ruth was born in Duluth on August 19, 1938 and grew up in Silverdale. She graduated as an honor student of the Orr High School class of 1956. She was united in marriage to Sulo J. Jacobson on March 21, 1959 in Cook. Ruth was energetic, active and well loved in her community and church. A few of her dedicated life chronicles are: manager of the Gheen Co-op, co-owner and operator of Sulo's Midland Service Station in Cook, employed at the Northern Farmers Co-op, CNA at the Cook Hospital, EMT for the Cook Ambulance and member of the Cook Area Credit Union Board for more than 30 years. Ruth was a committed member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Alango, where she served on the church council, was the Sunday School Superintendent and a WELCA member, along with serving on mission trips to El Salvador. Ruth was instrumental in starting Ruby's Pantry in Cook. She drove school bus and the sports bus for 40 years, nearly every student from the area had at one time Ruth as their trusted bus driver. She was a AEOA volunteer driver for many years in the area and delivered Meals on Wheels to many who were home bound. Ruth had the honor as being selected as Cook Timber Days Grand Marshal in 2014. She enjoyed the special times traveling and on cruises with family and friends. She will be remembered for always helping in any way that was possible to make the community and the lives of others better. The area has truly lost a great person.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Sulo, on Nov. 23, 1986; one son, John Jacobson on February 24, 2008; one brother, Gene Metsa on October 18, 2015; and son- in- law, David Raymond on September 28, 1997.
Ruth is survived by the loves of her life: children, Lisa (Tom) Ojanen of Cook, and Jim (Alesia Jamnick) Jacobson of Chisholm; 5 grandchildren: Kelly (Derek) Rutledge of Boulder, CO, Sara (Jim) Reed of Blaine, MN, Ryan (Ashley) Raymond of Independence, KY, Justin Raymond of Gaylord, MN and Levi Jacobson of Scandia, MN; siblings, Roger (Carol ) Metsa of Angora, Kathy (Glen) Ikola of Trout Creek, MT and John (Nancy) Metsa of Deerwood, MN; brother- in- law, Marvin (Jean) Jacobson of Clermont, FL: sister- in- law, Shirley Bixby of Cook; numerous nieces, nephews cousins, and a host of friends.
SERVICES: A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday (Jan. 30th) at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cook. Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM Friday at the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor Joey "pj" Bailey and Rev Art Dale will be the officiants. Singing will be congregational and Margaret Jarka will provide the accompaniment. Honorary bearers will be Lester and Nancy Erickson, Ernie and Carol Seppala and Sharon Karr. Interment will be held at a later date in the Alango Cemetery. A reception in Ruth's honor will be held in the church social hall after the service.
