Ruth E. Olson
Ruth E. Olson, 102, of Cook passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the New Journey Residence in Biwabik.
She was born Ruth Elsie Nelson on February 2, 1914 in Columbia Heights, Minnesota; the daughter of Per and Hilda Nelson. She grew up in Columbia Heights, where she graduated from high school in 1932. After graduation Ruth was employed with the Pillsbury Company in Minneapolis, until her marriage to Anton Olson on October 2, 1937. The couple lived in Columbia Heights, Anton worked as a truck driver with Phillips Petroleum for 40 years, retiring in 1973. At retirement they moved to Cook, settling on the original Olson homestead. Ruth was a dedicated homemaker. She loved to crochet, knit, cook and bake. She voluntarily decided to give up driving at the age of 90, and had the ability to live in her own home to the age of 100. Her family fondly recalls that she was a classy dresser and an excellent piano player.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anton on February 7, 1987
Ruth is survived by three sons, Denn (Billie) Olson, George Olson, and Tom (Sue Finnila) Olson all of Cook; one daughter, Ruth (Ben Etienne) Olson of Maple Grove, MN; one sister, Esther Olson of Crosby, MN; five-grandchildren, Jedd, Josh, Cindi, Tony, and Michael Olson; and three great grandchildren: Xochitl, Xul, and Jonah Olson;
along with special extended family.
SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook, with visitation at 12:00 noon until the hour of service. Pastor Jeff Schirle will be the officiant. The casket bearers will be Denn, George, Tom, Jedd, and Josh Olson, and Ben Etienne. Burial will follow in the Cook Community Cemetery. A reception in Ruth's honor will follow in the social hall of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Cook.
