Obituary

Samuel "Sam" P. Heglund

Samuel P. Heglund, 68, of Cook, passed away peacefully on November 5th, 2016.

Sam was born in Cook, MN to Maurice and Sylvia (Lindgren) Heglund on September 12th, 1948. He was a lifetime resident of Cook and graduated from Cook High School in 1966. He served in the Army from 1968 to 1970. This included a tour in Vietnam, and he was honorably discharged as Spec/5 (E-5). Sam worked for DWP/CN Railroad for over 35 years, retiring in 2008 to a life of leisure, sports, golf, and time with family.

He was a proud Lifetime Member, Sr. Vice-Commander, Board Member, and volunteer of Cook VFW post 1757. In his younger days, he enjoyed baseball, softball, fishing, and hunting. During all of his life, he was an avid reader and beer drinker. In his golden days, he enjoyed golf, travel, and Crown Royal. Since he has gone to Heaven, he is working on the elusive hole-in-one.

Sam is survived by his wife and best friend Michele Meier, son Brian (Jamie) Heglund, step-son Christopher (Amanda) Meier, step-daughter Elizabeth (Matthew) Overas, brother Dean Heglund, and numerous cousins and friends. Above all else, Sam loved his grandchildren Tyler, Samuel, and Caleb, as well as his cat Sakė-San.
