Celebration for Sonny and Helen

Obituary

Sonny (Morris) Flack, of Unicoi, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 12, 2026.

Sonny attended school in Cook, Minnesota, graduating from Cook High School in 1962. He then joined the U.S. Army, serving with distinction for 20 years before retiring in 1982.

Sonny and his wife Helen shared a full and adventurous life together, living in Scotland, England, West Germany, and Arizona before settling in Cook, Minnesota. There they opened and operated Sonny’s Electronics, a sales, service, and repair shop. They retired from the business in 2008 and moved to Mountain Iron, Minnesota.

In his final years, Sonny lived in Unicoi, Tennessee, with family, enjoying the warmer weather and the many good places to share a meal. He made it a daily habit to check the Mlaker Funeral Home obituaries and joke that his name wasn’t on the list. In one of life’s final ironies, it is there now—and he didn’t get to read it.

Sonny left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him and will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Helen; his parents, Warren “Pat” and Dolores “Dottie” (Helstrom) Flack; and his brothers Larry, Ron, Richard, and Doug Flack.

Sonny is survived by his sons Warren (Andrea) Flack of Unicoi, Tennessee, and Kevin (Julie) Flack of Hibbing, Minnesota; and his grandchildren Connor Flack of Bemidji, Minnesota; Micah Flack of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Colton Flack of Virginia, Minnesota; Hailee Heurkins (Quoc Tran) of London, United Kingdom; and Braedon Flack of Hibbing, Minnesota; great grandchildren Scarlett Helen Flack; brothers: Don "Donny" (Brenda) Flack of Angora, MN, and Leslie (Diane) Flack of Texas; sisters: Patty (Jack) Petruska of Virginia, MN and JoNell (Dez) Davis of Texas

A celebration of life for both Sonny and Helen will be held at the Fayal Town Hall and Rec Center (4375 Shady Ln, Eveleth, MN 55734) on September 12 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Friends and family are welcome.
