Stanley R. Polich

Stanley R. Polich, 88 of Greaney passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at the Heritage Manor in Chisholm.

He was born in Greaney on August 26, 1927, the son of Rok and Johanna Polich. Stan was lifelong resident of Greaney. He graduated from Orr High School in 1945 where he played on the Orr High School basketball team that won the state championship that year. He honorably served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Stan married Edna M. Pajares on May 14, 1955 in her home town of Biwabik. They were members of St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Greaney, then later became members of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cook upon their merger.
Stan worked in trucking and logging, and in 1961, settled on the original homestead, adding farming to his work. Stan was a member of the former Vidor-Meizo-Kilby American Legion Post #605 of Greaney, the Orr American Legion Post #480, and the Cook Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1757 of Cook. He was an avid hunter, both waterfowl and deer. He had a lifelong strong work ethic that was instilled in his children.

He is preceded in death by his wife of nearly 58 years, Edna on February 21, 2013; four brothers, Victor, John, Elmer and Rudy Polich; three sisters, Molly and Dorothy Polich, and Olga Ovnick; and son-in-law, Darryl Hendrickson.

He is survived by one son, Barry (Debbie) Polich of Greaney; four daughters, Theresa Polich of Floodwood, MN, Mary (Rick) Kochaver of Vassalboro, Maine, Laurrie (Wesley) White of Side Lake, MN, and Molly (Robbin) Wood of Linden Grove, MN; nine grandchildren  Amy Polich, Emily Polich, Julie Thul, Wyatt Polich, Rok Polich Wood, Dylan Hendrickson, Jennifer Kochaver, Honna Hendrickson and Amber Kochaver; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am Tuesday, (May 3rd ) at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cook. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Father Drew Braun will be the celebrant. St. Mary's Funeral Choir will sing, accompanied by Marjorie Miller. Military honors will be accorded by the combined honor guards of the Cook VFW and the Orr American Legion. The honorary bearers will be Frank Befera (deceased), Walter Mondale, Dr. Robert Donely, Rok Polich Wood, Dylan Hendrickson, and Julie Thul. A reception in Stanley's honor will follow the service in the church social hall. Interment will be in St. Bridget's Cemetery in Greaney. Arrangements are with Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook.
