Obituary

Susan "Sue" L. Martin, age 58, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. She was born February 18, 1959, in Kankakee Illinois to Frank and Adella Petkunas. She was a 1977 graduate of Momence High School. Sue married Ronald "Ron" Martin on August 21, 1982, in St. Anne Illinois. Soon after, they found themselves becoming beagle parents. Sue worked in her family's business, Frank's Appliance Center until her and her husband Ron started their new adventure in 1995 and moved north to Cook Minnesota to open up Moosebirds. Sue also nurtured the entrepreneurial spirit in others by working with the Minnesota Entrepreneurial Fund for several years. Through this work Sue helped people realize their dreams of starting their own businesses with her support and expertise so they could become independent.

Sue truly lived life to the fullest through passion for painting, her positive outlook on life and her love for her family and friends. Sue had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. Sue was a primary founding member of the Northwoods Friends of the Arts and the driving force to make it a reality for the arts in Cook.

She is survived by her husband, Ron and their beagle Maggie of Cook Minnesota, sisters; Julie (Steve) Williams of Lowell Indiana and JoAnne (Mark) Keen of Momence Illinois. Brothers; Frank (Sonya) Petkunas of Kankakee Illinois, David (Melissa) Petkunas of Midlothian Illinois and Dan (Stacy) Petkunas of Momence Illinois. Brothers-in-law; Randy (Betsy) Martin and Ricky Martin. Sue had many many nieces and nephews that will greatly miss her positive energy and amazing loving spirit. Sue touched many people in one way or another over the years and she will be greatly missed! At this time, the family does not have the exact arrangements scheduled but they will be celebrating Sue's wonderful life this summer with all of their family and friends in Cook. In February, there are plans to have a celebration of Sue's life with her family and friends back in Illinois.
