Thomas "Tom"
Richard Whiteside
Jun 12, 1952 — May 7, 2024
In Loving Memory of Thomas Richard Whiteside
With hearts full of gratitude for a life lived in service to others and with great respect for all of God's creation, the family of Thomas Richard Whiteside announces his passage to eternal rest on May 7, 2024, at the age of 71. Born on June 12, 1952, in Cook, Minnesota, Tom was a light to those around him, embodying the virtues of humility, honesty, and kindness.
A faithful servant, Tom was a cherished member of the First Baptist Church of Cook. He walked through life with a steadfast faith that was evident to all who knew him, living out the Scripture's call to love and to listen, to work diligently with one's hands, and to spread joy and laughter.
Tom's love knew no bounds and was felt most by his beloved wife of 23 years, Jodi Whiteside, and his adoring children, Samantha Hannine, David Hannine, and Marisa (Whiteside) Turner. His mother, Francis Gustason, and siblings Bill Whiteside, Larry Whiteside, and Betty Lindgren survive him, continuing to honor his legacy. He joins in Heaven his father, Thomas Whiteside, stepdad Don Gustason, and brother Roger Whiteside.
A man of many skills and trades, Tom's professional life included roles as a Security Guard at Hanford Nuclear Plant, a Construction Worker in Alaska's Barter Island, an Iron Worker in Washington State, a Semi Truck Driver, and a dedicated X-Ray Technician at Cook Hospital for 16 years. In each role, he served with a spirit of integrity and hard work, embodying the dignity of labor.
His creative spirit thrived through his art, whether strumming his guitar, shaping clay, or capturing the beauty of the world on canvas and paper. Tom found solace in nature, whether it was tending to his garden, sharing his culinary creations, or reveling in the tranquility of camping, canoeing, and fishing.
Tom's final earthly service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Cook on May 17th at 11 am, with visitation beginning at 10 am, a sanctuary where he once lifted his voice in praise and where his community will now gather to honor his memory.
Mlaker Funeral Home of Cook, MN, has the honor of assisting the Whiteside family during this time of transition. The family extends their heartfelt thanks for the compassionate care and support provided.
Tom's legacy is not just in the memories he leaves behind but in the lives he touched with his compassionate soul and gentle humor. As he is called home, may we find comfort in knowing that he is now at peace in the infinite love of the Lord, and let us carry forward the light of his spirit in our own lives.
