Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wayne Edward Cheney, loving husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and passionate hunter.

As the sun rises and sets, we will remember Wayne's warm smile, twinkling eyes, and the echo of his laughter. Wayne's memory will forever color our days.

Wayne was born on July 20, 1942, in Cook, Minnesota to Lloyd and Eddie Belle Cheney. He grew up in Angora, attended grade school in Idington and graduated from Alango High School. He married Shirley Ann Miller on June 16th, 1963, in Williamsport, Indiana. They lived for a while in Hannibal, Missouri. He worked for Reserve Mining Co. of Silver Bay MN for 7 years, then worked for Northern Electric Co-op until retirement in 1987. He was a member of United Steelworks and a member of I.B.E.W. He and Shirley eventually settled in Northern, MN to raise their six children.

Wayne was a member of the NRA and loved camping. He was an avid hunter and fisherman with outstanding success. He enjoyed being with his wife Shirley, being around his family, and taking his grandchildren hunting, fishing and camping.

Wayne is survived by his children: Wayne (Barb) Cheney, of Angora, Tina (Brian) Sklors of Saint Michael, Kim (Greg) Dertinger of Gilbert, Kenneth Cheney of Virginia and Jillene (Herb Jr.) Clapsaddle of Gilbert; special brother in-law Pete Miller of Virginia; grandchildren: Wayne (Breann), Lisa (Mike), James, Ryan (Brittany), Nicole (David), Breanne, Mykell (Jesse), Alexandria (Kyle), Christian (Melinda), Noel (Jesse), Cory (Christie), and Isaac; great-grandchildren: Hailey, Ian, Mykenna, Abigail, Jersey, Jameson, Arielle, Anna Belle, Alec, Matthew, Sarah, Kara, Coryn, Ashley, Andrew, and Xander; great-great grandchildren:Tabias and another on the way; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife Shirley and beloved Son Scott; his parents Lloyd and Eddie Belle; three brothers: Lloyd, James, and Gerald; four sisters: Dorothy Laakkonen, Iva Dantes, Marge Wardas, and Ruth Stupica.

Please join us in celebrating Wayne, Thursday July 11, 2024 at the Cook Community Center 10:00 am for visitation and 11:00 am for services by Mlaker Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Hillside Cemetery in Angora immediately following the service.  Lunch will be provided at the Cook Community Center directly after the burial.
