Obituary

William "Bill" A. Eichholz, 84, of Hibbing, Mn passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2021. Bill was born on August 5, 1936 in Cook, MN to Anthony and Zada (Brandon) Eichholz. He was raised in Buyck, MN, attended Vermillion Dam School until grade 5 and then Cook School; graduating Cook High School in 1954. As a child, Bill worked hard on the family farm. His love for the family farmstead never waned and he spent his life maintaining it. Bill was united in marriage to Melietta Sandberg on August 9, 1958 in Hibbing, MN. Bill worked various jobs around Cook and Lake Vermilion until he joined the United States Marines in March of 1958; serving in 5 foreign countries and across the United States. After serving his country honorably for 20 years, Bill retired from the USMC in 1978, at which time he moved his family back north to Hibbing. He worked at Hibbing Taconite for 15 years as an equipment operator, retiring in 1997.

Bill loved the outdoors and all that Northern Minnesota had to offer. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and trips into Canada with his friend Gus. He was a family man who very much enjoyed reunions and gatherings. He was generous to a fault, always willing to help out others. Bill was proud of what he achieved in life, and proud of his time served as a Marine. As he stated "not bad for a country farm boy".

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Zada; sisters: Lois Youngman, EmaDee White, Eula Anderson, and Geraldine Slee; and a brother Jack Eichholz.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Melietta Eichholz (Sandberg) of Hibbing; children: Brian (Maureen) Eichholz of Hibbing, Michael (Heather) Eichholz of Sioux Falls, SD; and Darren Eichholz of Hibbing; grandchildren: Rebecca Eichholz, Ian Eichholz, Melany Eichholz, Mary Eichholz, Kristie Pintar; great granddaughter, Kyra Eichholz; numerous nieces and nephews; and best friend, Gus Klaysmat.
